Default Camera Performance Questions

Hello,

I wanted to get a better idea of some of the features concerning the Trail Cam Xp:

1) How quiet is the shutter/trigger, is it silent, slightly audible/bairly noticeable, or you can hear it .

2) When they say no red glow, does that mean that you can not see anything when the flash goes off or can you tell there is light and or identify the source of the light? Can you turn the flah off?

3) How good is the motion detector in terms of false alarms, ie. wind causing trees to move? Are the motion detector's adjustments effective in adjusting sensitivity related to this?

4) What memory capacity do you recommend for ten days of 5MP images.

Hello Woodspix

1.To answer some of your questions on the type of IR system used in the TrailEye XP go into General discussion and I believe it is the first thread that goes into detail about that and also there are some examples from pictures of the TrailEye XP system compared to a conventional red glow system.

2. The question on the day/night filter exchanger there is very, very faint sound at about 3-5 ft in a room with absolutely no background noise at all. Once again we always use several other cameras to monitor the cameras we are testing. In this case the cameras that were used to monitor the effect the changer would have on animals mainly deer we used several other cameras that did not have filter exchangers on those to get the most accurate proof that the day/ night transition on the camera had no effect on deer or other wildlife what so ever.

3. The motion sensitivity on Trail Eye series is preset and can not be adjusted. We do have that adjustment on the Informer series. Both of the Trail Eye and the Informer cameras use that exact same PIR and Fresnel lens. Both are exactly the same. Going off our know sensitivity setting/values on the Informer cameras we decided to preset the motion detection on the TrailEye series to avoid problems and question from or customers turning the sensitivity up figuring more is always better. This lead to more false triggers than if we would of had a fixed setting. I will mention that warmer temperatures will effect the performance of any camera. Most PIRs( Passive Infrared motion detectors use heat and motion to trigger the camera. So the closer the air temp is to the body temp of the object that is in front of the camera makes a difference. Most cameras users find a setting that will work in all conditions and just leave it there that is basically what we have done, Sorta like a one setting fits all applications.

4. This a loaded a question that could have alot of answers. This depends on the how the camera is set up, delay between pictures, if the camera is over a food source/bait were the same animal is recorded over and over and also depends on your deer density. We find the larger 8 and 16 gig cards take most systems longer to acknowledge the best all around card and this is what we normally use is a 4gig SDHC we recommend nothing but the SDHC cards for maximum performance which start at 4gig and go up from there. A 4gig card set at 5 megs resolution will get you around 2400 still images, at 3 megs it will get you close to 4000. Sometimes cameras set to 5 megs are over kill if all you are doing is looking at them on a PC. This why 8-10 mega pixel cameras are really unrealistic and are more of a marketing ploy than anything. The average trailcam buyer knows better that a 8 meg or 10 meg cameras is not needed. I could go into a hole other topic about how drastically the high resolution cameras are effected at night and why.

I hope I answered some of your questions

Thanks Woodspix for visiting our forum we appreciate your questions and comments.
